sorry again. now that i have taken another look at my files i found the 
problem myself (seems it needs posting to a mailing list sometimes to 
figure things out yourself) : the line in .emacs saying 
"(standard-display-european 1)" was disturbing cgreek display. after 
removing it everything works fine now. sorry for the disturbance.
