It looks like GNU emacs under SuSE 8.2 automatically loads Mule-UCS if
it is installed. I can say so, because I tried to execute
rpm -e Mule-UCS-0.84-180. After that emacs started without any
problems, but cgreek input methods began to produce Unicode
characters. When I installed this package again, everything
returned to the initial behavior.

Of course my ~/.emacs is customized, but I've written it for
emacs 20.7 and haven't changed anything from that time.
